Overview

This 7-night, 8-day private journey traverses the distinct ecosystems of Northeast India, linking the high plateaus and river gorges of Meghalaya with the wildlife plains of Assam. Covering Cherrapunji, Dawki, Mawlynnong, Jowai, the offbeat cloud valleys of Nongjrong, Shillong, and Kaziranga National Park, this itinerary pairs major regional highlights with secluded limestone caverns and scenic cultural stops.

Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati – Transfer to Cherrapunji

• Distance / Travel Time: Approx. 300 km | 7–8 hours

• Arrive at Guwahati Airport, receive a meet-and-greet transfer, and begin the ascending drive into the Khasi Hills toward Cherrapunji.

• En Route Stop: Umiam Lake (Barapani) for panoramic vistas of pine-fringed water and optional boating.

• Sightseeing: Stop at Mawkdok Dympep Viewpoint, followed by Seven Sisters Falls (subject to arrival time and light conditions).

• Check into the hotel for an evening at leisure.

• Overnight: Cherrapunji.

Day 2: Cherrapunji – Dawki – Mawlynnong – Jowai

• Distance / Travel Time: Approx. 180 km | 6–7 hours (including sightseeing)

• Depart post breakfast for Dawki to experience the Umngot River during morning hours when water transparency peaks.

• Optional country boat ride, photography, and an excursion to the India–Bangladesh border viewpoint.

• Drive to Mawlynnong Village; visit the Single Living Root Bridge, the Bamboo Sky Walk, and the natural balancing rock.

• Continue through the scenic countryside into the Jaintia Hills to reach Jowai for check-in.

• Overnight: Jowai.

Day 3: Excursion to Krem Chympe & Phe Phe Falls (or Krang Suri Alternative)

• Set out on an offbeat excursion to Krem Chympe, a hidden limestone cave system with turquoise pools accessed via 4x4 trails, boat rides, and nature walks.

• Continue to Phe Phe Falls, a secluded two-tier cascade surrounded by dense forest.

• Relaxed Alternative Route: Guests preferring a gentler pace may skip Krem Chympe to spend extended time at Phe Phe Falls and visit the accessible Krang Suri Waterfall.

• Overnight: Jowai.

Day 4: Jowai – Nongjrong

• Distance / Travel Time: Approx. 90 km | 3 hours

• Enjoy breakfast before taking a relaxed drive through the Meghalaya countryside toward the remote village of Nongjrong.

• Check into your rural homestay.

• Spend the afternoon walking village ridge paths, taking in panoramic valley landscapes, and experiencing quiet rural life.

• Overnight: Nongjrong.

Day 5: Nongjrong Sunrise – Shillong

• Distance / Travel Time: Approx. 120 km | 4 hours

• Early morning wake-up call to witness the Nongjrong sunrise, where dense morning clouds blanket the river valley below.

• Return for breakfast, check out, and drive toward Shillong.

• Sightseeing en route or on arrival (time permitting): Shillong Peak, Ward’s Lake, and the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians.

• Spend the evening exploring cafés, shopping, and local street delicacies in Police Bazaar.

• Overnight: Shillong.

Day 6: Shillong Local Sightseeing

• Dedicate the day to exploring the landmarks of Shillong:

  • Elephant Falls, Lady Hydari Park, and local artisan markets.

  • Optional cultural stops: Don Bosco Museum of Indigenous Cultures or the Air Force Museum.

• Remainder of the day is flexible for leisure and shopping.

• Overnight: Shillong.

Day 7: Shillong – Kaziranga National Park

• Distance / Travel Time: Approx. 270 km | 6–7 hours

• Check out post breakfast and descend the hills onto the fertile floodplains of Assam to reach Kaziranga.

• Check into your wildlife resort.

• In the evening, visit the Kaziranga Orchid & Biodiversity Park to enjoy indigenous flora, regional handicrafts, and traditional Assamese folk dance performances.

• Overnight: Kaziranga.

Day 8: Kaziranga – Guwahati Departure

• Distance / Travel Time: Approx. 220 km | 5–6 hours

• Optional early morning wildlife Jeep Safari in Kaziranga National Park before breakfast.

• Check out and begin the drive back toward Guwahati.

• En route, visit the historic Maa Kamakhya Devi Temple on Nilachal Hill (flight schedule permitting).

• Transfer directly to Guwahati Airport for onward departure.
